Guilt Be Gone!

First, get a pen and paper.

Now, consider.  When was the last time you beat yourself up or gave yourself a big huge guilt trip?

My messages of guilt were these:

  1. I’m such an idiot.
  2. You are weak.
  3. Stop it!  I can’t.
  4. How can I possibly be a healthy mother and eat like this!?

Write down everything that you’ve been telling yourself and guilted yourself into believing.

There is something I would like to confirm for you now.  Maya Angelo said, “When we know better, we do better.”  When we beat ourselves up we are hoping that the scolding will motivate us into change.

Here is the problem:  Guilt makes it worse by confirming the negative reaction.  Guilt puts more energy into what is wrong, misleading us away from a new perspective.

Here is the solution:  Fill in the blanks, or your ego will do it for you.  We can identify negative aspects until the sun comes up tomorrow, yet if we don’t envision what we would rather have, the guilt will fill in the blanks for you.

Now, catch yourself in the act of beating yourself up and tell yourself a new story.  Replace those thoughts, with thoughts of self-love.  I know this is hard.  But, love is what facilitates change.  Never guilt.  Never.

The truth is we over eat because we are trying to help ourselves alleviate the hurt.  That is nothing to be ashamed of.  You are a beautiful Spirit with a huge heart.  All emotional eaters have huge hearts, and that is part of what got us into the cycle.

Now, use your big heart on yourself.  Go ahead and try it.  You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.  This week what will you tell yourself?  🙂
